(01-24-25)
(Updates in bold)
· The best time of the year to go is in January. It’s cooler and it is not in the rainy season. Pastor Mike told me that the flight back needs to be on the 21st.
· I checked several airlines. United, Air Canada, Luxair Air, to name a few. Note: After talking with Pastor Mike on 01-17-25. The best airline would be United.
· Note, at this time we can only get rates for 6 months out.
- We will need some people from the church to drive us to LAX and pick us up when we return. Like we did for the Haiti mission.
- The best route would be LAX to Brussels then to Free Town Sierra Leon. There may be a stay over in Brussels. If not a stay over, then several hours between flights.
- In April Lufthansa air will be starting flights to Free Town. We will look into them at that time.
Total cost would be as of 1/24/25
$2,950 per person
This includes:
Airfare, Lodging, food (3 meal per day)
Water Taxi
All in country transportation
Extra baggage cost (one extra bag) (they allow one carry-on & one overhead)
(You can put $200 down and pay off the remainder by paying some each month.)
THE CUT OFF DATE TO CANCEL AND RECEIVE BACK YOUR FUNDS IS JULY 28 TH
THE TICKETS WILL BE ORDERED ON
MONDAY JULY 29TH .
- We will be staying at the new apartments that were just built. They have excellent accommodation. Wonderful bathrooms, air conditioning and great sleeping accommodation too.
- Our meals will be prepared by their chef.
- Any extra food would be on the individual regarding cost.
- All travel will be “in house.” They have 2 vans and 2 school buses at our disposal.
· There are 7 schools that the mission has. We will have the opportunity to be involved in many ministries for adults and children.
· We will have free time to just enjoy the area and take in the sights.
- We will also have time to shop.
· Go out to the different provinces to minister.
- Hold evangelism outreached.
- One idea is they can combine all the churches into one large meeting service. This would encompass hundreds if not a thousand people.
In the 7 schools they have 600 to 700 children and youth. They can divide the children and youth into 3 separate groups. 1 st & 2 nd grades, 3 rd & 4 th grades and 5 th and 6 th grades.
We can use a VBS format with teaching and fun times.
Our total trip would be 9 days.
Their buss will pick us up at the airport and bring us to the water taxi. The boat taxi ride will be about 40 min. long.
What we will need: YOU NEED TO GET THE FOLLOWING.
· A valid passport (6 months past our date there)
· An “E visa.” (We can obtain that by going to the Sierra Leon website. I am not sure currently of the cost.)
· Each person will need to get international vaccines, Typhoid, Malaria, Tetanus, etc.
· When we arrive, we will go through customs then we will board a water taxi that will take us to Free Town.
· If we have a group of 9 or 10 it would be much more comfortable to rent a private taxi.
- We would board the taxi immediately and depart.
· I have been on a large public water taxi and they are packed with hundreds of people, chickens and other animals. You wait for all the livestock and other items to get on board. That takes about 2 to 3 hours. Not a good time and the boat ride is about one hour.
- TO BE CONTINUED.
